About

Chantal Piercy

Hi, I am a Registered Counselling Therapist-Candidate (RCT-C) with NSCCT and trained Therapeutic Play Practitioner.

I am a person-centred practitioner who uses core conditions of acceptance, unjudgmental empathy,

and unconditional positive regard within the therapeutic relationship.

I can build rapport quickly with children and adults, allowing for therapeutic
goals to be met and positive change to occur. I can provide a safe space for individuals to express
themselves fully and work through past trauma, in a supportive, caring environment. If you are
interested in working with me please fill out the short intake form below after perusing my list of
services:

Experience

Registered Counselling Therapist-Candidate
Therapeutic Play Practitioner

I have a background as a Special Needs Educator and Coordinator and have worked with children and adults with varying levels of learning needs from specific, to moderate to complex. Most children, teens and adults that I taught had ADHD, Autism, or a combination of these diagnoses. Some had specific learning disabilities, global developmental delays, attachment disorders, oppositional defiance disorder, conduct disorder, mental health disorders and some had rare and complex co-morbidities.

On feeling the need to work 1:1 and provide more intensive mental health supports to my students I trained in play therapy in 2016, and worked as a therapeutic play practitioner in the UK before beginning to work here in Nova Scotia, conducting therapeutic play through ThruPlay and schools and domestic violence organization. I currently work from my home clinic, out in the community, and at Lesley Hartman & Associates in Halifax. I have provided support for children, teens and adult trauma survivors for the last 5 years and have enjoyed this challenge very much. I have a Rogerian approach which allows me to create instant rapport as I am open, accepting, unjudgmental, empathic and meet my clients at their level with unconditional positive regard. As well as play therapy, I have had training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR and Trauma-Focused CBT.
